Spawning from Gai's idea, I decided to post my own thought on this. They would be in the Ningu branch for all villages and would focus around creating pills that did different things.
Yakuzaishi (Apothecary) Level ~5 Ningu - This skill lets players mix one ingredient to produce one pill. When the pill is consumed it provides an affect for approximately 5 minutes and the player cannot consume any other medicines for one hour.
Chouzaishi (Pharmacist) Level ~40 Ningu - This skill lets players mix two ingredients to produce a small medicinal ball. When consumed it'd provide two affects for approximately 10 minutes and the player cannot consume any other medicines for 45 minutes afterwards.
Kagakusha (Chemist) Level ~90 Ningu -This skill lets players mix up to 5 ingreidents to produce 5 affects on the player for about 15 minutes and the player couldn't consume other medicines for 45 minutes afterwards.
If a player knew all three he'd give a bonus to length of the affect and reduce the cool down of the medicines he produced. As well as adding bonuses for when eating medicinal items himself.
As for the affects that could happen, those would be determined by the items used. Some types of items would be randomly generated in forest, sand, etc zones and others could be purchased, probably for hefty sums. Things could have a mixture of properties, some being straight-up good and others be a mix (increased attack for lower defense).

I'm all for this, as long as the items to make the stuff are really hard to get and only have a small chance of popping whenever they respawn.
