Tip System
Tip System
A system that lets any player write a 'tip'. Players can then view all tips, and if they like a tip, they can recommend it. If a player thinks a tip is bad, then they can vote the tip unhelpful. Before a tip would go live, an Imm would have to approve it. Also, any tips a player writes that get a lot of recommendations will receive bonuses like extra experience.

Re: Tip System
It sounds interesting, but what kind of tips would the system be for? Just general things like, "use challenge global to see all the mobs you can fight" or would it be aimed towards building your character?
Re: Tip System
Pretty much any kind of tips you wanna write. I'd leave it pretty open, from "For Solfege, have a high str!" to "Shop X sells the best X." Really, near anything that you'd wanna say, as long as it didn't violate our no quest help policy.

Re: Tip System
I think it's a cool idea, but there's already a lot of "build your character like this, and this, and this or you won't be any good." I guess as long as there was sort of a high standard for things being approved, it would be pretty awesome. I would only be worried about "builds" becoming a more common thing to see than people just finding their own way.
Re: Tip System
I agree with Ichiro. I like the tips for general things, but giving tips about what skills are best, etc. will further narrow the skill pool.
So I like the idea, but I think that the tips should be highly regulated.

Re: Tip System
I think that's the point of having Imms regulate it. I would like to see something like this, you might be able to search the tips for certain things, such as "what level should you be to fight the bandits?"

Yeah, but a lot of that stuff is common knowledge and there would be a lot of people complaining that so-and-so is getting all of the xp boost because he happened to be the first one to post everything that is common knowledge. It seems like a system like this could be drastically unfair to the people who know a lot, but can't be on when the system first goes into place.
In order to balance that out some, this could be integrated into the oask/oanswer channel, as an archive of sorts, with the ratings/recommendation system being based upon actual questions that were asked instead of ones that anyone could just come up with to boost their tally. Also, a rating system for multiple answers to the same question might work well, as some people provide more complete answers than others (like the rankings on Urban Dictionary).

I hope I'm not necroing a dead thread, I'd really like to see something like this however.
