As I sit and dream my dreams, I wondered to myself, should there be a max level? Obviously, we live in a realm of reality where you'd have to hit a top level eventually...but it could be set to a level similar to Disgaea where the max level is pretty much never obtained. Now, why would you want this? Well, when you hit level 300, what is next? If you could continue to level we could adjust the game so that you could continue to improve your character. Possibly letting players do all sorts of new and exciting things.
However...we don't even have a level 300 guy now...would it even be worth it? Would enough folks want to level grind themselves to level 400 or 500? There are some more hardcore players out there that I hope will weigh in. From my perspective, it'd open up a lot more ways to improve your character, but it could just be pointless.
Thoughts?

If there was sufficient content and reason for continuing to level then then I would be all for the change or removal of a max level. I think it would be quite fun to have a max level of 9,999 with the current difficulty of leveling. Also, geopanels.

hrm...
Not much happens as you go up combat levels. If there were modifiers (for HP, Chakra, Stamina, or maybe even increased damage with Tai, Nin, or eventually Gen; maybe even choose-able, for more specialization) with level increases, I could support higher/unreachable level caps, but I currently don't see much of a point.
As it stands, at level 300/level cap you've said you might put in a reincarnation type thing to recreate your character with some bonuses. I like this better, once your ninja becomes the best he can be, he would pass on his knowledge to the next generation.

One benefit would be getting more practices with the new system to convert ability points into practices. At +300 levels all ability points could be converted into practices, which kinda makes sense. Once a ninja has mastered everything he can master in general, he would probably start to become better at more specific things, i.e. jutsu he doesn't already know. Doing it this way would probably make for a better endgame experience, otherwise at level 300 you hit a brick wall, unable to enjoy the MUD on the same character because there's nothing to do (save for RP). In my opinion, this is a fairly good idea, especially since the ability point/practice conversion is available.
Re: Should the max combat level be removed?
I actually agree with both Yamashita and Isamu. I'm pretty sure that in all the discussions I've heard, remorting has always been addressed as a one-time deal. I've also heard mention of having different options depending on when you remort, such as maybe choosing an SBA if you're only level 100, or choosing some kind of special village or something (maybe?) when you're level 200, and so forth.
I think that Isamu has a very valid point about things becoming a little pointless, aside from just getting more practices anyway. I think there are a lot of players that pretty much turn most of their levels above 100 into practices...I guess if there was a higher level cap then they might do that, max out one area, then move onto leveling up a different area and getting everything there.
Regardless of if the level cap changes, I think players need more things to strive for at higher levels so that there isn't really an "end."
