Experience Bonus Based on Village
Experience Bonus Based on Village
Since NM tracks the population of villages, I think it might be neat to give an experience bonus based on how sparsely populated a village is. For example, say starting from the most populated, Leaf, each one below that would gain a 20% boost to experience. So lets pretend the order is Leaf, Stone, Sand, Sound, Mist. So the experience bonus would go 0%, 20%, 40%, 60%, 80%. So all Mist-Nin would get a boosted 80% experience. The idea behind this to drive other players, and especially newbies, to trying these less popular villages.

I went for a village that I thought would be empty, but...everyone I have seen online is from the village I joined, I think you should provide a +census command or something.

The "mudstat" command will show you a population breakdown.

This sounds interesting, but I wouldn't give more than a 50% boost based on village population. Maybe 10% instead?

Sorry, but I did not see that listed anywhere. Most places have this listed informing new players, as there is a lot of different commands for each mud.
Also, with the mudstat command..I am in the smallest village. Four out of the five people I have seen online they come from my village..The fifth is a builder.
Re: Experience Bonus Based on Village
Yeah...I think the problem is that we have a lot of new players that try a variety of different villages, but we have a lot of really old players who maybe stop in from time to time (or even who just haven't been on in years) who were from one or two villages primarily.

I think it's a good idea, kinda like a bonus for trying the new

This is the problem, 43% of players are from leaf, but when you play only about five active players, are from leaf. Sound has more active players then sand, mist, and stone, but they get more XP then both mist and sand. While mist sand and stone have about two or three active players. Maybe it would be better do to it based on the number of players over the level of 10 that log into each village everyday, because right now people in Leaf, Mist, and sand, are just being punished for new people always joining and not playing.

I can see that being a good point. I'd hate folks to feel that they're being punished just because players who come to just check out the MUD have a Leaf character. On the flip side, this bonus would be to try and make more people migrate to other villages, not just give experience bonuses.
I wouldn't want Leaf to get a bonus, just because they are the least active, because we have a giant population of them sitting around. Maybe the solution is just a bonus for being active as I posted before like FPP (http://narutofor.us/forum/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=1124)?

I would rather reward activity over punish others for inactivity.

This doesn't sound right to me. I know far more active Mist players than Sound, and there have been a number of new Stone recently.
Yumi wrote:... are just being punished for new people always joining and not playing.
I don't really think of it as a punishment, as it's a bonus beyond what you would normally get. The villages with more population just get a slightly smaller bonus. Any amount of bonus XP is better than none.
Yumi wrote:I would rather reward activity over punish others for inactivity.
This bonus isn't about activity or inactivity, but rather the variety of players in the MUD. If most players are from one village, the overall atmosphere of the Time Village won't be as intended.
Re: Experience Bonus Based on Village
Mist ninja? I have only meet three mist ninja in the five days I have been here. I know more sound ninja then mist.
It is punishment, because the are being denied a bonus because of the village of their choice, that is full of inactive players.
Yamashita please read Gatz post, he was making a comment to reward based on activity of a individual player.

Just going to step in and ask we are careful not to splinter topics. FPP's is another thread here, and we can talk about things with it there. However, I see points in both Yama and Yumi (Hrm, close names...you guys must be destined for each other). This makes me hesitate to implement anything on either side.
I don't want to give a village with a million people a bonus, frankly Leaf and Mist has too many people and I don't want to encourage players to want to switch to those villages just for a bonus. However, if players view this as a 'punishment' to not get a bonus then I won't go the other way of giving bonuses based on raw player count.
Again, the goal of this was not to find a clever way to reward players bonus experience, but a way to encourage players to play other villages. I still think it'd be a neat idea, and if you got upset, you could always make a new guy in that village, or maybe I could even offer an RPP prize of being able to change villages. However, the goal was to make more folks be none Leaf and Mist. So, this is a real toss up, but it seems there might be too many logistical hurdles to implement fairly.

Nmm, I am fine either way, I just feel sorry for people in Leaf.
