Throw

Post by Kiir »

I finally tried throw out for the first time..

It's majorly broken. You can just spam throw, get all, spam throw. Granted it costs stamina, but it has no time between throws/lag. My suggestions to the skill:
  • Make it so you can't use the throw command again for 2-3 rounds after using it.
  • Significantly lower the damage it does, especially for non-weapon items. Weapon items should contribute their damage range to it, however
  • If at all possible, add (or if already existing make it more known) a special item that is meant soley for throw (Shuriken, Kunai, Needles, Etc.), which will do much better in terms of damage than other items -- but will be consumed upon use without fail.
  • Add some sort of syntax that allows you to prepare and throw multiple items, based on how well trained in throw you are. IE, at 50%, throw two (Throw 2 kunai {target}). This will take a moment to prepare (should not be by -too- much) in order to throw multiple projectiles at a target with the same lag/cooldown. Downside is additional stamina cost and the fact that you expend more than one of the item.

Purchasing Rusty Kunai at 2 Ryo a piece, and being able to throw them maybe 4 or 5 times before they shatter, with 19-37 damage with no cool-down or lag whatsoever... is a little absurd.

Now say if you threw in the above changes, a cost of maybe 5 Ryo per projectile, and managed to get the damage of these items the same as the rusty kunai are now. It'd be a money-related damage bonus, without massive spamability. If you do it so you have to wait a bit before using the skill again, it will allow its use while still enabling you to do other Jutsu and autoattacks.

If I were able to throw two at once, with an average of 28 damage. Assuming both actually hit, 56 damage every 3 rounds (considering one round preparation, two round cooldown), that puts it at 18.6 damage per round at the cost of 3.3 Ryo, which is reasonable when comparing it to my Shell Blade +4 doing ~11 damage average when weighing its costs.

This would also give something consumable for players to spend Ryo on! :D

"Your projectile PULVERIZES An aged battle-hardened bandit! You do 103 points of damage." Cost of 200 stamina, sure. But jesus. From a lantern.

I've been saying most of was posted here for awhile. However, two things I'd like to address:

1.) Prices on items scale with level, making it difficult to appropriately price things for low level characters as the item will be massively more expensive at higher levels.

2.) The problem of throw being aimed much more at taijutsu-using low level characters. I'm not sure what the exact calculations for using throw are, but you can't use throw with 10 str, and most characters that I've seen use it at low level have 20 str. Basically, if you're a ninjutsu user at low levels (the people who are going to want to throw things more because they can't hit as hard with just their hands), you can't use throw. Unless, of course, you decide to not have the chakra you so desperately need for ninjutsu. (I suppose this would also apply to genjutsu users now too).

Even when using Ninjutsu and/or Genjutsu, I always say STR is the first route to ever go, and I'll generally suggest it through and through. And while items scale with level, it won't be an incredible amount. Especially considering the ease at which Ryo comes at higher levels.

Look at the lanterns in the town. They're, what. 4, maybe 3 Ryo in the early levels. Level 90-something character and it's 9 Ryo. Whoopeedoo. =P

And Throw should not be aimed at Taijutsu users because it -isn't- Taijutsu. It's a 'tool' type of ability. All Ninja use it, hence its being a Battle Ability.

This. ^

Throw does obscene amounts of damage at high levels: I can throw weapons and deal upwards of 1k damage for remarkably little stamina. This is absurd.

Finally getting around to trying to level up my throw and found something confusing

The help file talks about how a strong enough ninja can target mobs rooms away and doesn't give any more information than that.

I come to find out that I cant specify the direction of the creature I want to chuck something at.... what's the deal with this? The game auto-picks what it thinks I want to target? Or at least this is what I'm hearing in game as I must not be strong enough for even that to work yet.

There should be a syntax something like:
throw kunai rabbit <direction>

This would allow the player to get the mob he actually wants to kill.

(If I've been misinformed and there *is* a syntax to do something like this please disregard)
