This thread is to be used to talk about the new Genjutsu system. I'll be posting interesting bits about it that I want to highlight and letting people post their likes, dislikes and concerns here. Please always refer to help files first before looking for info. I ask that everyone who tries the new system gives it time before they decide whether or not they like it.
Here is some information I'd like to highlight and share:
System:
Basically, the idea behind Genjutsu is to have 1 skill that a user can build and deck out any way they really want. The basic skill is very simple, it only drains HP at a low rate, and then users can add on pieces to make it what they want it to be. This was all to make it so Genjutsu isn't anything like Ninjutsu or Taijutsu, and that no two Genjutsu users are the same. Some of the goals of Genjutsu are making PvE and PvP both possible and interesting. A Genjutsu user should be able to compete against a Taijutsu or Genjutsu user without assuming they are at a great advantage or disadvantage. Also, a newbie should be able to start as a Genjutsu ninja and level up with it, without being at a great disadvantage. The last being that it can't work like Ninjutsu or Taijutsu. Every skill tree should provide unique play experiences. I feel like I've met most of those goals and I hope you all feel I have, in some areas I'll be improving over time. Thank you for your patience, I know it took forever to get Genjutsu and I hope you feel it is worth it.
I want to also mention that unlike most other branches, your Genjutsu ability level greatly affects how strong your Genjutsu is. Also, factoring in how many Genjutsu you know plays a role in how strong your Genjutsu is. Truly, Genjutsu is unique on many levels.
Questions:
Updated as new questions are added to the thread.
Is this it for Genjutsu?
No! More skills are coming, my goal is to implement a couple interesting skills here and there until the Genjutsu tree is as big or bigger than Ninjutsu/Taijutsu skill trees.
I hate this crap! Is this how Genjutsu is going to be forever?
Sorry you hate it, and no this doesn't mean other Genjutsu won't come in that won't have similar workings to Taijutsu or Ninjutsu. My only thing I have to ask of you is that when you suggest Genjutsu, keep in mind it needs to pose some challenge to NPCs and PCs a like.
I want to be able to do X with Genjutsu, can I?
Eventually, the system will slowly be updated with new features and tweaks. As time permits and players demand it, things will eventually get changed and/or improved. The best thing you can do is just suggest improvements and tweaks.
Why is Genjutsu so strong/weak?
Genjutsu has been balanced to make it so it can be an effective option for PvE and PvP. However, I'm always open to nerfing or powering up any skill if it truly poses a problem. If there is a strong enough player push for this, I wouldn't mind having a 'balancing month' on Naruto where formulas get tweaked for all skills so things are a bit more balanced across the board.
Do I have to have Custom Genjutsu to perform other Genjutsu like Meiki or Chouraku?
Yes. Custom Genjutsu is the base of all the add on Genjutsu. Genjutsu like Henge or Sneak still work the same, however.
Can my clone perform my custom genjutsu?
Yes, absolutely!
If clones can use Genjutsu, does this mean NPCs can too?
You bet. As new areas come in and NPCs get added or updated, expect some of them to use Genjutsu.
Do I have to learn 'Custom Genjutsu' to use these new skills?
Yes, all the new skills are built around you having to have Custom Genjtusu in order to perform them.
What if I don't want to use all the Genjutsu I know at once?
Right now, that isn't supported, but an update to Genjutsu is planned to address that later down the road.

Ideas
* Because Genjutsu doesn't start melee combat I propose the introduction of a complementary Hide and Sense abilities. Hide makes you invisible in the room but moving breaks the hide. When a player "look"s in a room it will roll against the player's Sense skill. If the hider succeeds he stays hidden. If the senser succeeds the player will be seen by the senser only. The Sense skill should be coupled with a "notify" command that allows the user to notify the location of a hidden player to the room (with optional "group" switch which will only notify the hidden player to the senser's group).
** Hide/Show Notes:
* Using Genjutsu while hidden will modify the sense/hide roll to favor the senser. The more damage the genjutsu does the more the favor slides to the senser (The affected player must have the Sense skill).
* The Hide/Sense skills could either be skills with % or (the way I see it) abilities with the player's intelligence making the roll instead of the skill %
* Probably already in the works but definitely a way to customize the Custom Genjutsu hit/miss/tick and kill description with tokens ($n = player name, $t = target name, $p = target pronoun) e.g.,
** On self
*** setcgmsg self hit A small lightning cloud forms above $t.
*** setcgmsg self tick A burst of lightning from the cloud strikes $t.
*** setmcgmsg self miss A burst of lightning from the cloud strikes the ground beside $t.
*** setcgmsg self kill One final bolt of lightning electrocutes $t.
** target messages
*** setcgmsg target hit A small cloud of lightning forms above your head and begins to follow you everywhere.
*** setcgmsg target tick A bolt of lightning from the cloud strikes you!
*** setcgmsg target miss A bolt of lightning from the cloud misses you.
*** setcgmsg target kill A bolt of lightning from the cloud electrocutes you to death!
** Room messages (subject to viewer intellect rolls otherwise generic $t winces in pain, etc messages are used)
*** setcgmsg room hit A small cloud of lightning forms above $t's head and begins to follow him around.
*** setcgmsg room tick ...
*** setcgmsg room miss ...
*** setcgmsg room ...
** setcgmsg will require an authorized bio and the finalized setcgmsgs will require additional authorization
* An ability whose name I can't think of that will allow the user to cause damage to themselves to try and cancel a genjutsu (will allow taijutsu/ninjutsu users to break Genjutsu without needing Kai.) The more powerful the genjutsu the more damage that they need to cause, will be much less likely to succeed than Kai

Re: Genjutsu - Discussion
The bulk of Genjutsu is now in. So, I feel the iron is hot to really get some player feedback on it. Obviously, some folks might have differing opinions, but it'd be nice to see where the base line of players are.
