time village ninjas?!

Post by isken »

well, since we already have a village for the time ninjas...why not make them a playable ninja village. perhaps they could get a heavy amount of genjutsu moves, like making the opponent slow down, or speeding yourself up (time manipulation?). and the village does already have a backstory aswell. so what does everyone think?

Honestly, I think it would be a mistake. It would be much easier to do than others because it is all made up, I could just go nuts...but if we ever progress further in the game's life, Time Village will be gone and then we'll have a class that was throw away.

Other option is to leave Time Village in, which I have had a few ask to do even after we get main villages. That sort of makes me fidget because I'm not sure many players want that much liberty taken with Naruto.

I sort of feel it is like DBZ MUDs that 'invent' new races, for the most part they are horribly lame. Anyways, I'm curious to what other folks think.

I believe the Time Village currently suits very well for an introduction area. In terms of Naruto Geography there are HUGE gaps of unexplained land. I don't see what the difference between us having Time Village is any different from canon episodes introducing new villages (Star Village, Moon Village, among others.) Of course when main villages are added they will be favoured since they are more well known. However, from what I've seen from new players, they really don't even take in the concept that they are in a "village". Many think they are in Konohagakure or Sunagakure.
In the same vein, filler episodes and other canon material invents villages/jutsu/ninja ad nauseam with seemingly no ill will from most of the viewers (Though it is obviously agreed that fillers are barely watchable in most cases.

*So I could lean either way, there is no real beneficial or harmful aspect

*There is a very large effect (no particular name for it yet so I'll call it the "Oooh Shiny" effect) This happens when something new and "shiny" is added. There is a large rush to the shiny new implementation which may last for weeks on end. After the initial "Ooooh Shiny" effect is over the curve snaps and balance is returned when people get bored and begin to distribute to the previous (in this case) villages. New players will be attracted at first but will also balance themselves out when they become bored.

The other end of the "Oooh Shiny Effect" is the Fanboy Effect. In this case hardcore fans (Fanboy) are so possessive of their object of fandom that they are quick to criticize with an eagle eye. Nitpicking at the most mundane detail which is (not so coincidentally) also present in their beloved object. This is very deadly to a new idea if there are enough fanboys behind the movement. A healthy, survivable ratio is usually the case but once you have a higher Fanboy:Casual Fan ratio it gets dangerous.
