I realize we aren't at the point where we can have the starting villages...but what about small-esque starting zones customized to each class? It'd replace the current Newbie Academy. So, if you didn't want to jump directly into the game, or go to the MUD School, you'd go to your starting zone.
The zone would be themed to your village, so for example Sound's might be a liar of Orochimaru and Leaf's might be a warm greeting by a Chuunin. Maybe Cloud's might have Killer Bee giving you a rap to encourage you? The starting area would have -very- low level guys to fight and basically be a very short Newbie Academy type area.
It'd also set the stage for Time Village. Maybe Sound's has Kabuto telling you to spy on them. Cloud's tells you to toughen up. Sand's tells you to show them the mighty ninja of Sand, etc. They each set the stage for going into Time, as well as giving you some unique gear that is for your village.
I forgot to mention, too...that it'd help the newbie experience. I do think we could do a bit more to make fresh faces feel more welcome and excited. I think level 1 people don't really get the chance to enjoy our skill setup, but at least they could have a flavorful area to start with.
Thoughts?

If we did something like this, each starting area should end in the lobby of the Newbie Academy, that way each player gets a taste for the quest setup.

Hrm, I was more viewing these areas like mini-Newbie Academies.

I think this would be an awesome addition, personally. We could add information about general village stuff, and once we have our six legendary players, we could add tributes to them and their heroic struggles to become the powers that they are.
