I thought they already used to have this, Cause I remember 3-4 years ago not being able to make a char unless it had a Japenese name, then later on i noticed you just don't get extra exp if you dont have a japanese name. I don't know though, it's been a while.

I made a change that allowed non-Japanese names, but you recent a bonus to experience if you use a Japanese name. It was a big turn off to new players when they tried to use their old MUD handle and it wouldn't work.

Yeah, if someone wants to RP with a less weird sounding name or whatever, they can make an alt once they figure out how the mud works on their "normal" name.

I guess my other driving factor is how anime love to use Western style names Japanesed, but to tell a person they can use the name "Chuck" but have to write it "Chyaakku" is a bit confusing. I have yet to have someone with a non-Japanese name apply for RP authorization...but I'd imagine I'd let them. In Naruto, "Pein" is supposed to be "Pain" (English pronunciation) but it has to be Japanese because "e" is like our "aye" (think Fonz).

I also see people swear their name is Japanese but they don't have it written properly, so it technically isn't. Which was leading to just hurt feelings.

I guess my last bit is my handle isn't Japanese either! So, I got worn down to the point where I realized I'd rather encourage people that went with a more themed name, than punish those who didn't. What I've seen is most folks who pick a name out of theme will see the bonus experience and remake to get it. Those that don't either won't stick around or just want to use their MUD handle that they've grown attached to. Maybe in my old age I'm becoming too soft. :)
