Bots?

Some MUDs have done this to sort of add 'fake' players into the game. Some MUDs just use this to pad the who list and some actually have bots that wander around the game and appear on who. Since we sometimes have a spotty amount of players online, should bots be put in to offset the lack of players we have sometimes?

Anyone have thoughts?

It depends on how real the bots actually act. Will they group with us and go on runs like normal players do, etc. I've seen one MUD (.Dimension 2) implement things called Wanderers which is pretty much this idea, they run around, form groups with players/other Wanderers, will sell/buy from shops, level just like normal players, etc. It's an interesting venture in both AI and in interactivity.

I like this idea, and pretty much have to agree with what Koroshiya said.

This would make summons and animal companions (think Kiba and Akamaru) easier, and certainly the keepers of the summon scrolls.
I would definitely like to see some of the genin on the dirt path to be more than just mobs.
