I was chatting with Ichiro when I thought up and idea of having various perks go with certain ages.
Like starting at age twenty and then every ten years afterwards you would gain a practice point.
Or from age eight to ten you get a small exp boost since children learn things easier.
From seventeen to twenty five there could be stat boosts since the ninja would be in the prime of their life.
Perhaps starting at sixty and then every five years afterwards the ninja would gain a small stat boost to Int,Wis, or Dex (anime has proven that perverted old men are exceptionally fast and dexterous), and they could lose Str, Con, Int(senile), or cha.

Not everyone over sixty is feeble of mind! Think of the perverted old grandpa in Ranma 1/2!

Though on the other hand, that could make a convincing argument for the cause..

Although dropping stats might make it more 'realistic', it sounds more like punishing of long-term players...and I don't think that is a good thing, yes?

Of course, anything that helps with stats is a sure win. ;)

I do like these ideas, and I had originally thought up some similar, but my only qualm comes when penalties might occur on players of older ages. What I thought might be a neat idea is doing tweaks so as you age, the way you fight changes, but I wasn't sure if players would go for it. Imagine having Mr. Awesome Ninja until you play 400 hours, then you need to change your strategy completely.

I could already hear a lot of players going, "I could have beaten you if I hadn't hit the age 40 change." Paired with lots of, "How come my character fights so much worse now?" and sprinkled in with lots of "LOL GAY"s. That being said, if the penalties were balanced out, then it might be kind of fun and pretty realistic. Just from my brief thoughts:

Age 20 - Bonus Practice
Age 30 - 10% decrease in cost of Chakra or Stamina, whatever your dominate field is, be it Taijutsu, Ninjutsu or Genjutsu.
Age 40 - Additional 10% decrease, but 5% decrease in max Chakra and Stamina capacity.
Age 50 - 20% boost to damage in dominate field, Taijutsu, Ninjutsu or Genjutsu. Additional 10% decrease in max Chakra and Stamina Capcity.
Age 60 - Body decay, all LSC percentages drop 25% faster. 10% bonus to equipment, armor and weapons.

That was just what I hashed out really quickly, and I doubt it is that solid, but I think those are sort of fair, but I don't know if the majority of players would like that sort of thing.

Yeah, I hear you on the penalty dilemma. Didn't think of that earlier, but I guess probably anyone with half an interest in Arena and PVP would be less than overjoyed by the idea of loss/change of 'ideal' stats/benefits.

Slugfest->Kill-inna-blow->Big 'n beefy definitely calls for change of strategies. And what of those that're the tinkerers and explorers of different styles? Having to wait till a character's sixty to 'fulfill their potential' could be...aggravating.
